Dr Rana Ahmed, PDRF on the GHRU Phase 2, in collaboration with the Port Sudan Dermatology Hospital team, conducted a service availability and readiness assessment of health facilities in Port Sudan. The elements documented in this  assessments included staffing levels, staff capacity in scabies diagnosis and treatment, availability of medicines for the treatment of scabies and other common skin conditions, and routine recording and reporting practices for scabies surveillance.

Following this assessment, training workshops were conducted by Dr Rana Ahmed and the Port Sudan team, including a two day medical staff training workshop where physicians and medical staff were targeted. These workshops were held in coordination with the Red Sea Dermatology Hospital and the Ministry of Health, in Port Sudan.

The focus of Day 1 was on physicians, while medical assistants were the primary audience for Day 2. Ten health workers were assigned to participate each day.

The objectives of this training activity include building the capacity of health workers on NTDs; and strengthening the detection and management of scabies across various health facilities in Port Sudan.
