As a result of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the city of Port Sudan in the Red Sea State has become a shelter for those affected by the war, with over 90 camps for (IDP).
The overcrowded camps which possess little access to sanitation and Healthcare have now become a medium for scabies, a highly contagious Neglected Tropical Disease that gets transmitted via skin-to-skin contact.
The GHRU Sudanese team identified camps in areas and neighbourhoods known to have a high number of scabies cases and conducted a week-long awareness campaign in collaboration with the Dermatology Hospital.
The interventions reached over 4000 individuals residing across 5 IDP camps. As a result of screening and detection 44 individuals were diagnosed with Scabies and 104 with other skin NTDs.
